Pain during sports and sex or a feeling of shame – labia reduction, the most common procedure of intimate surgery, is mostly driven by a specific burden for women. It is mainly the inner labia that are perceived as too long and much more prominent than the outer labia, which usually have a protecting function. We make affected patients feel better in everyday life and address the needs of each individual.
The procedure of labia reduction
In a first talk, we determine the extent of the reduction together with the patient, considering both personal preferences and her anatomical conditions. In general, the reduction of the labia minora is performed during dormancy or under general anesthesia. A hospital stay is not necessary.
The labia are carefully measured again at the beginning of the procedure to remove the skin according to the specifications made during consultation. The tissue defined as excessive is finally detached, and the incisions are stitched up with self-dissolving sutures. The procedure takes one hour. If there is excess skin also around the clitoris, it will be adjusted as part of the procedure as well.
After the surgery, the patient can go home but she should regularly disinfect the wound. During the first days, bathing is strictly prohibited. In the first three weeks after the surgery, we also recommend completely refraining from extreme movements, exercise or intercourse. During this time, also the follow-up checks will take place in our practice.
As part of the normal course of the healing process, swelling is expected in the first few days after the surgery but this will pass soon. Due to our surgical procedure, the scars will be almost invisible after the wound has healed. Usually, the surgery does not affect the sensitivity of the labia.
