Breast augmentation

Many women see their breasts as characteristic of their own sensuality and female identity. Be it after a pregnancy, due to age or the feeling that the breasts are too small: there are many moments and reasons why women – especially regarding self-confidence – wish to have a breast augmentation. It is not surprising that this is still one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery, which uses silicone implants in most cases to improve and increase a woman’s natural breast.

The procedure of breast augmentation

Especially when it comes to her breasts, each woman has her own ideas. During individual consultation, we identify personal preferences and define the target breast size. In this case, the patient gets to know our silicone implants of the latest generation to choose the right size for herself. During the actual surgery, Dr. med. Barbara Veldung makes an incision in the inframammary fold or around the areola, so she can insert the breast implants – depending on the objective – in front or behind the pectoral muscle.

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 1 to 1.5 hours. To avoid any risks, the patient must stay in hospital for two to three days. For collecting blood and wound secretion, drains remain in the wound during this time. A bandage is put on to support the breasts, which will later be replaced by a special support bra to stabilise and protect the breasts from adverse movements. On the fifth day after surgery, showers may be taken again, and the sutures will dissolve on their own. Shortly after the surgery, you may already return to your everyday activities. However, we discourage you from great physical effort or exercise in the first three months following the procedure.
